About
Colin (Harry Melling) leads a routine life in the London suburbs. His days are filled with work, his evenings with performances in a bar singing group, and romantic adventures are in short supply. That all changes when shy Colin is approached at the bar by Ray (Alexander Skarsgård), a mysteriously seductive member of a biker gang. But Ray isn't looking for a conventional relationship.
The debut feature from director Harry Lighton tells, with subtle humour, a tender love story set in the BDSM world, wrapped in the roaring engines of powerful machines. The film has resonated strongly since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it took home the Best Screenplay award.
The screening is followed by a discussion with Jiří Markvart, a Czech writer, blogger and publicist focusing on queer identity and the lives of LGBTQ+ people. He came to wider attention with his autobiographical book Pražská buzna, based on his blog of the same name, which captures the life of the contemporary Prague queer scene with wit, humour and openness.
The discussion is moderated by Tomáš Procházka, performing under the name Grófka. He is a performer, dramaturg and member of the queer performative platform PINKBUS Platform. His work blends drag, cabaret, travesti and political satire, and he has long engaged with themes of queer identity, social stereotypes and current political reality. His distinctive performative style draws on icons of Czech pop culture and the tradition of Prague travesti shows.
