About
What to expect
Seventeen-year-old Fatima, the youngest of three sisters, treads carefully in search of her own life path, navigating between desires that gradually emerge, attraction to women, and loyalty to her caring and loving French-Algerian family. She begins her studies at a Paris university, goes on dates, makes friendships, discovers a whole new world – and throughout it all, she is constantly confronted with an age-old and heartbreaking dilemma: how can one stay true to oneself when reconciling different parts of one's identity seems impossible?
Love, faith, and desire collide in the acclaimed autobiographical novel by Fatima Daas, adapted for the screen by Hafsia Herzi, director of A Good Mother (Ensemble Prize winner at Cannes Film Festival's Un Certain Regard section) and You Deserve Love (Cannes Critics' Week). Herzi's film, built on stunning performances, thoughtfully oscillates in the fragile space of inner conflict between sexuality and religion.
