About
What to expect
As of January 2026, an amendment to the Criminal Code has taken effect, expanding protection for victims of bias-motivated violence and addressing the long-criticised "flaw in the law".
We invite you to a round table offering an open discussion among experts, representatives of the judiciary, the non-profit sector and the public about what the amendment actually changes and how the new framework will work in practice.
We'll focus on questions of proving bias motivation, the approach of police and courts, victim support, and the boundaries between human rights protection and freedom of expression. The meeting will include concrete real-world examples, sharing of experiences and a debate on whether the Czech legal system is ready for these changes. The aim is to create space for substantive dialogue, an exchange of perspectives and a better understanding of how the approach to bias-motivated violence is evolving in Czech society.
