About
The queer scene is often seen as a safe space and an alternative to mainstream norms. Yet LGBTQ+ relationships are not immune to power dynamics, manipulation, sexualised or domestic violence. Even so, we rarely hear about these experiences.
What does domestic and sexualised violence look like among LGBTQ+ people? Why is it often hard to recognise, name or report? And what happens when someone encounters a support system that isn't designed with queer experience in mind?
The debate will bring together expert perspectives and the personal story of a gay man who is a rape survivor. We'll open up questions of support, prevention and myths. We'll explore why we need to talk more about violence among LGBTQ+ people – not to weaken the queer scene, but to make it safer for everyone.
