About
The theatrical exhibition Tělák takes you into a school and a gym – places of strict rules, but also places where we often become most acutely aware of our bodies, our identities, and the gaze of others. Places where we learn what our bodies can do, are allowed to do, and want to do.
Am I too sensitive? Am I too fat? Do I belong somewhere? Will I be enough? Will anyone love me for who I am?
The exhibition draws on authentic documentary stories from teenagers and adults, opening up themes of the body, judgement, norms, and acceptance.
You can visit Tělák on your own at the Prague City Museum until August 9. But a guided tour with its creators is an extra treat! Together you'll walk through the scenographic space of the exhibition, gain insight into the creative process behind the installation, and get up close with the individual stories and the wider context of the show. Of course, there will be space for questions and shared reflection.
Your guides through the exhibition Tereza Kadlecová and Aleš Rumpel – the concept authors and creative producers of the exhibition, from Prague Pride. They have been with the project from its very first idea through to its realisation. Their long-term work focuses on the position of LGBTQ+ people, human rights, and education.
Bronislav Stratil – architect, scenographer, and co-founder of the RSAA architectural studio. He is the author of the overall concept of the installation, its scenography, and the art director of the Tělák project. RSAA is among the most prominent Czech studios focused on exhibition design and public space. It has been involved in a number of award-winning projects, such as the New Generation Museum in Žďár nad Sázavou, the Urbania exhibition at CAMP, the reconstruction of the Novomlýnská Water Tower, and the exhibitions Praha hoří and Praha Karla IV.
Sodja Zupanc Lotker – dramaturg, educator, and head of the master's programme Devised and Object Theatre at KALD DAMU. On the Tělák project she worked as the scriptwriter and dramaturg of the installation. She previously served as the artistic director of the Prague Quadrennial and has a long track record of collaborating on theatre, dance, and site-specific projects in the Czech Republic and abroad. Her work focuses on contemporary performative forms, documentary practice, and connecting art with social themes.
