Tělák – A Theatrical Exhibition

A school gymnasium, changing rooms, and bathrooms are spaces where teenagers intensely become aware of their bodies, encounter the pressure of established gender norms, and find themselves under the gaze of others. This is where the Tělák exhibition at the Prague Museum takes visitors—a venue newly opened after extensive renovations this spring.

Tělák is a theatrical installation that doesn't showcase museum artifacts, but rather personal human stories. The kind that most of us have experienced. The exhibition raises questions that young people across generations grapple with: feelings of inadequacy about appearance, uncertainty about identity, fear of judgment, pressure to "fit in," and the consequences of failing to do so.

Visitors experience firsthand the stories of repression and exclusion, but also of self-discovery, celebration of freedom, mutual respect, support, and acceptance.
