About
Note: this city walk is conducted in English only (the Czech-language walk starts at 4:30 PM)
Join historian Ladislav Jackson from the Czech Queer Memory Society for a guided walk through Prague's queer past. The route runs along Národní třída and Václavské náměstí and highlights sites connected with queer history from the 19th century up to the year 2000.
During the walk we'll visit locations linked to the lesbian festival Apriles from the 1990s, the first editorial office of the magazine Hlas sexuální menšiny, and the renowned salon of queer designer Oldřich Rosenbaum. We'll recall Allen Ginsberg's visit to Prague in 1965, discover meeting spots of the golden queer youth, and stop by the legendary T-Club and Rostov bar, both of which were under surveillance by the communist State Security.
We'll also walk past the famous café and hotel Šroubek/Europa, which survived every 20th-century regime, revisit the history of Lázně Koruna, and show you the location of the notorious cruising spot known as Červený ďábel (The Red Devil).
