Positive Life: The Journey from Diagnosis to Acceptance

HIV has undergone a huge transformation over the past few decades. While modern medicine can effectively control the virus — making it untransmittable with proper treatment — many people's perceptions remain stuck in the past. Prejudice, fear, and outdated myths often outlive the health complications themselves.

What does living with HIV look like in 2026? Is life with the virus really as challenging as it seems from the outside, or do the biggest obstacles today exist only in our heads?

Together we'll walk the path from the initial shock of diagnosis all the way to acceptance. You'll learn what life with the "plus" involves — both from the perspective of someone living with HIV and through the eyes of a doctor who has their back.

Oliver Mynář, a psychiatrist and activist who shares his HIV story openly and with perspective, will share his personal experience. Through various avenues — from a public appearance in a campaign in France to in-depth interviews in Czechia — he breaks down barriers between personal experience and professional practice in the field of mental health.

The medical perspective will be offered by MUDr. Milan Zlámal from the Central Military Hospital Prague, where he heads the HIV Centre. He also works at the PrEP Point of the Czech AIDS Help Society. In his practice, he has long focused on HIV, pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP), and modern approaches to prevention and care for people at risk of sexually transmitted infections.
